Talas


Center of isolated Talas valley

Talas is a small town on the Talas river, in the center of Talas valley, which is separated by mountain chain from Kyrgyz main territory, thus there is only connection to other Kyrgyz cities via Kazakhstan. Altitude of the town is 1200 m above sea level.

Land of Manas

Several monuments of antiquity, including old ruins, mausoleums and settlements, cemetery of I-IV cc AD, located in Talas valley may be of interest to tourists and travelers. Here is also a birthplace of Manas - the hero of Kyrgyz epic, that's why Talas valley is called "land of Manas".

Town of XIX century

Talas was founded by Russian and Ukrainian colonists, who in 1877 created here a village, named Dmitrovka. Town status was assigned to Talas only in 1944. After that started the construction of multi-storey buildings, and began to develop the industry. In 2003 the town is estimated to have more than 35000 inhabitants, mostly Kyrgyz. There are also live Germans and Dungans.
