Town of power engineers

Nurek is a tiny town in central Tajikistan, which appeared in 1960 on the site of the homonymous village as a result of the construction of the famous Nurek hydroelectric station on the river Vakhsh. Nurek is surrounded by mountains, here you can observe strikingly beautiful painting in the evening, when the lights of the numerous windows of the houses suddenly light up the mountainous valley.

The world's highest dam

The main point of interest of Nurek town is the world's highest bulk dam above Nurek hydroelectric station. This power station in its turn is included in the thirty most powerful hydroelectric stations in the world. Thanks to a giant dam, there formed a huge water reservoir surrounded by snow capped peaks.
